DESCRIPTION
The 1965 Porsche 356 SC was part of the final production run of Porsche's first model line, the 356, which had been in production since 1948. The SC was the most powerful version of the 356 series (excluding the limited-production 4-cam Carrera models), and 1965 was the last year it was made before being replaced by the Porsche 911.
Key Features of the 1965 Porsche 356 SC:
Engine: 1.6-liter flat-four (air-cooled)
Power: Approximately 95 hp at 5,800 rpm
Torque: 123 Nm (90 lb-ft) at 4,200 rpm
Carburetors: Dual Zenith or Solex carburetors (depending on market and specific setup)
Transmission: 4-speed manual
Brakes: 4-wheel disc brakes (a significant upgrade over earlier drum brake versions)
Body Styles: Coupe and Cabriolet
Top Speed: Around 115 mph (185 km/h)
0-60 mph: ~10.5 seconds
Notable Characteristics:
Refined design: Subtle evolution of the original 356 shape with improved aerodynamics and slightly more aggressive details.
Handling: Light weight (~2,100 lbs) and excellent balance made it fun to drive, even by modern standards.
Interior: Minimalist but elegant, featuring classic VDO gauges and a wood-rimmed steering wheel.
Collectibility: Highly sought after today, especially the SC variant for its combination of power and refinement. Original examples with matching numbers and clean provenance can command high prices.
